Truck Wrongful Death Lawyer in NYC

On June 7, 2014, comedian Tracy Morgan was severely injured when the limo bus he was traveling in was rear-ended by a Walmart truck on the New Jersey Turnpike. The crash resulted in one fatality and several injuries. Investigators determined that the driver of the truck had been continuously awake for 24 hours.

This is an example of the type of truck accident that takes the lives of many Americans each year. The U.S. Department of Transportation reported 3,921 big rig accident fatalities in 2012. Not only 18-wheelers but also other types of commercial vehicles are often involved in serious and fatal accidents. New York City has plenty of trucks on the roads, including big rigs and service vehicles. In early 2015, a garbage truck struck and killed a bicyclist in Queens.

Federal and state safety laws are intended to protect the public from truck accidents caused by preventable human error (negligence), including:

  • Driving fatigue
  • Lack of safety features or failure to use existing safety devices such as signal lights and backing alarms
  • Traffic violations, such as illegal lane changes

Sometimes it is a truck driver himself (or herself) who is killed. In this case, there will be a work injury death claim. More often, however, someone in another vehicle is a fatality victim in a crash between a truck and a smaller vehicle.

The Law Office of Richard M. Kenny in New York City has a strong track record of successful injury claims and lawsuits and wrongful death claims. The firm has collected more than $100 million for injured people and surviving family members.
