New York City Bicycle Accidents

A bicyclist was killed when a sanitation truck struck and killed him in Brooklyn on Saturday. The NYPD responded to a call around 12:30 a.m. of a collision on Franklin and Noble streets in the Greenpoint section of the borough. Police say they found a 27-year-old bicyclist unresponsive on the street with severe trauma all over. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
New York City is constantly traffic-ridden, so many turn to bicycles as an alternate way to get around. However, with so much traffic, accidents like these happen far too often. Cars always seem to be trying to hit that extra light so they speed through intersections and lights. In neighborhoods like Greenpoint in Brooklyn, streets are small and narrow and it is often hard to vehicles and bicycles to share the road safely if not all of the proper safety precautions are followed on both ends.
Cyclists must also follow the rules of the road, but many cars do not treat them as equals. In order to facilitate safe roads and bike lanes, all vehicles need to abide by traffic rules.
The Law Office of Richard M. Kenny has years of experience in litigating bicycle accidents. We have handled cases including bicycles involved in collisions with vehicles, bicyclists engaged in collisions with pedestrians, car doors knocking cyclists off their bicycles, defective roadways causing collisions, and pedestrians struck by bicycles.
