Common Fourth of July Personal Injuries

As fun as Fourth of July is, there are also many dangers associated with the holiday and it is important that you make safety a priority this weekend. First, if you are located in New York City, please be aware that fireworks, including sparklers, are completely illegal. Throughout the majority of New York State, sparklers have been legalized. If you happen to travel outside of New York City and use sparklers, it is important to be safe.

Make sure you keep sparklers away from children. They are only legal to be purchased and used by adults 18 years or older. In addition, it is a good idea to keep a bucket of water on hand to put used sparklers into or to put out a fire, in the event of an emergency. It is essential that you take safety precautions. If you were injured by burns due to someone else’s negligent use of fireworks or sparklers, you may be able to bring a personal injury case.

Another common accident that may occur over the Fourth of July weekend are those in swimming pools or the ocean. When a child is left unattended around a swimming pool, they may fall in and not be able to swim, which could result in drowning. With thunderstorms in the forecast, it is important to stay out of water when lightning is present to avoid electrocution. For those who are spending time out on the water in boats, make sure to wear a life vest and never operate a boat while intoxicated.

Have a safe and fun holiday weekend. In the unfortunate event that you are injured in an accident, contact our firm and we’d be happy to assist you.
