All over the City, construction is booming. The evidence is plain to see. Right near our office in Herald Square, the number of buildings undergoing massive renovations and/or new construction is astonishing. The pressure to get these projects done fast (sometimes too fast) in order to increase profit is enormous. When corners get cut to increase profits, injuries are more likely to occur. Sometimes these injuries are devastating.
If you are a construction worker, it is important to know your rights. New York State Labor Law, particularly §240, mandates that construction workers are entitled to a safe place to work and to be provided with the necessary equipment and safety equipment to do their jobs. When companies violate these rules they are liable for the injuries and damages that they cause.
Opponents of these protections (developers, insurance companies, contractors) claim these protections should be abolished because they make construction too expensive and hinder growth. Look around and you can see this is not true. In addition, The Department of Buildings also released data showing this is not the case.
Here at the Law Office of Richard M. Kenny, we have helped many injured construction workers and their families obtain the compensation that they deserve for violations of their rights. We believe strongly in your rights to a safe work place. Our founder, Richard M. Kenny was one of you. He worked his worked his way through law school on these same construction projects as a proud member of Local 33 Laborers Union.
